MVSU Alumnus Ronald Kirklin C’87 Promoted to General

FORT LEE — Col. Ronald Kirklin is now brigadier general of the Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, making him the 53rd Quartermaster General of the U.S. Army.

Kirklin’s promotion ceremony took place at the Lee Club on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. in a room packed with Kirklin’s family, friends and fellow soldiers.

“I want to start first, Ron, by congratulating you … it’s a privilege to be standing here with you on this momentous occasion,” said Maj. Gen. Stephen Lyons. “What’s really the most impressive to me, is the hundreds of people in the audience that represent every single assignment that Ron Kirklin has served in, from Hohenfels (Germany) to his current day assignment, more than a dozen states, and I have to say your presence here today speaks volumes, and way more than I can ever say in my remarks today.”

Kirklin was presented with the general officer belt, pistol and flag during the ceremony. In his remarks, Kirklin thanked a long list of Army comrades and leaders, mentors, friends and family from all stages of his career.

“I believe success is not obtained (solely) by the individual. You don’t get there alone. For every successful person or organization, there’s so many people who have played a major role in helping you get there, so I want to spend my time this morning thanking the entire team, leaders, all civilians and military soldiers, friends, community and family,” Kirkin said.

Kirklin has served the U.S. Armed Forces for 27 years. After graduating from Mississippi Valley State University as a distinguished military graduate, Kirklin joined the 11th Armored Cavalry as a platoon leader in Fulda, Germany from 1987 to 1991, during the end of the Cold War.
